Ethereal Beta Version Update 0.8.8

This one might be the best update yet!

Ethereal version 0.8.8 is now available for Steam Beta Testers, and features the Vulcan Shrine as a new playable realm and the addition of four new enemies.  You’ll find the game has had it’s difficulty balanced in a much better way, and you’ll find blocking with all weapon types to be much more effective and less error-prone than in previous versions. There’s also numerous upgrades and bug fixes, and all this adds up to make for a much improved experience.

Also, you get to fight a giant Lava Knight!

Vulcan Shrine’s level design was originally created by Jacob Corle, and he did a pretty good job making it one of the largest and most intricate maps in the game. I’m happy to have been able to polish it up and make it playable, as it’s a lot of fun to explore!

Version Update 0.8.8 Release Notes

  • The Ethereal Realm: Vulcan Shrine is now open for play-testing.
    • Recommended for players around level 20.
    • This realm is accessible via the Arcadian Portal.
    • You must complete the first realm, Shiitake Temple, to unlock Vulcan Shrine.
  • Vulcan Shrine introduces the following enemies:
    • Goblin
    • Gruntling
    • Dragon Worm
    • Lava Knight (boss)
  • Blocking animations and sound effects have been updated for all weapon types.
  • Blocking now reduces damage taken by 75%.
  • Ranged attacks now deal more damage.
  • Players now begin the game with the Iron Sword equipped.
  • Prodigy will now give players a Cloth Tunic during the tutorial instead of the Iron Sword.
  • Reduced the damage dealt by the following enemies:
    • Skeleton Warrior
    • Skeleton King
  • Adjusted the melee radius of the following enemies:
    • Skeleton Warrior
    • Skeleton King
    • Soul Eater
  • New Steam Achievements were added:
    • Ethereal Paladin  –  Complete the Tutorial.
    • Vulcan Logic  –  Complete Vulcan Shrine.
  • Made changes to the “Hit” sound effect used when players take damage.
  • Added more Skeleton Warrior spawn points to Arcadia.
  • The game now Auto-Saves when you gain a level.
  • Added more loading screen hints.
  • Fixed a bug where opening chests would occasionally append the test ” GOLD” onto rewards that weren’t Gold.
  • Fixed a bug where the War Aspis would glow when blocking.
  • Fixed a bug where unlocking targets was not possible while blocking.
  • Fixed a bug where players could spam action animations on some NPCs after interacting with them.
  • Fixed a bug where players would advance too quickly through levels 9, 10, and 11.
  • Fixed a bug where dying could permanently decrease your ATK and DEF.
